News — KINTORE PPC APPLICATION SUBMITTED TO SEPA

Monday 28 May 2007

Oran Utilities Ltd. have submitted an application to the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) for a Pollution Prevention and Control (PPC) Permit to operate an animal rendering plant at a site near Kintore, Aberdeenshire.

Subject to obtaining the necessary PPC authorisation, Oran Utilities Ltd proposes to open the facility in 2007.

Since acquiring the site in 2004 Oran Utilities Ltd have invested around £6 million in renovation work. This investment has involved installing the best available equipment to ensure that the facility is operated to a consistently high standard, including the installation of a thermal oxidiser that will treat and destroy potentially offensive odours.

It is anticipated that the facility will provide many benefits including local employment and reduced operating costs for local agricultural and related industries, as animal by-products will no longer have to be transported long distances. This will also have a beneficial impact on the environment as annual carbon emissions will be significantly reduced.

A copy of the application can be viewed at Kintore Library and an electronic version is available for viewing on the SEPA website www.sepa.org.uk/oran
