News — Oran Training Accreditation

Tuesday 9 October 2007

Energy-led waste management company, Oran, have been granted accreditation as an Approved Training Centre.  This accreditation enables Oran to deliver periodic training for the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) to Oran employees and external candidates.

Oran is the third company in Scotland to be awarded this accreditation.

Oran operates an extensive Transport Department that comprises of over 200 specialist vehicles, including a range of Euro 5 emission level compliant vehicles, and employs 250 drivers.  As the Transport Department has continued to expand, a strategic decision was made to work towards becoming an accredited training centre, enabling driver training to be conducted in-house with the recent appointment of Transport Training Manager Willie Patterson.

The Driver CPC is a new qualification for professional bus, coach and lorry drivers, which must now be sought in addition to vocational driving licenses.  This qualification is aimed at improving, maintaining and developing the knowledge and skills of LGV and PCV drivers.

From September 2009, all existing LGV drivers have to complete Periodic Training.  This training programme provides recorded evidence that they have attended for a minimum of 35 hours over a five year period.

Peter Deighan, Oran’s Group Transport Manager commented on the recent accreditation, saying:

“We are very proud to have been recognised as the third Approved Training Centre in Scotland which demonstrates our commitment to driver training.  Oran’s Transport Department are now looking forward to commencing a structured and professional Driver CPC training programme which will be rolled out to all sites across the UK and Ireland.
