News — Oran Awarded T in the Park Contract
Monday 30 June 2008
Oran recently helped T in the Park organisers to provide an environmentally friendly festival in Balado, after being awarded the festival’s prestigious waste management contract by DC Site Services (DCSS).
T in the Park, currently Scotland’s largest festival, will mark the fifth major DCSS outdoor event at which Oran has provided waste management and recycling services this year, having already serviced the Rockness Festival in Inverness; the TASTE Scotland Food Festival in Edinburgh; and the recent Neil Diamond and Radiohead concerts in Glasgow.
As part of the T in the Park contract, Oran provided a comprehensive range of skips and bins to ensure that all areas of the vast campsite and festival arena had suitable facilities for waste collection and recycling. These facilities included glass bottle banks; bins for plastic cups and bottles; recycling bins at dedicated areas across the campsite; and numerous skips for co-mingled waste.
Oran had waste collection vehicles on site for the duration of the three-day festival and has been instrumental in the immense clean-up operation following the renowned event.
This service was tailored to encourage and facilitate recycling whilst satisfying the specific requirements of DCSS, who view recycling as a key element in the sustainability of outdoor events.
John Monkman of DC Site Services commented: “We are looking forward to yet another successful outdoor recycling and clear up operation at T in the Park working alongside Oran, who have competently managed and facilitated DC Site Service’s green approach to outdoor events”.
Sharon McAllister, Oran Account Manager commented: “We are delighted to be providing a total waste management solution at this year’s T in the Park festival. With around 80,000 people attending each day, a carefully planned and comprehensive service solution was essential. Having established a good working relationship with DC Site Services, we are confident that the weekend will be a success whilst being widely recognised as being an environmentally friendly festival”.
